“YOU SHOULD ALWAYS KEEP TRYING TO IMPROVE YOUR OWN PERCENTAGES”

“97% IS A PRETTY GOOD SCORE”

Even an experienced driver with an eye for efficient driving can always learn more.

L. Van Bogaert Transport recently invested in a number of new DAF XF trucks. Thanks to the DAF Driver Training voucher that came with the purchase, driver René Ryckaert was able to refine his driving skills even further.

WIDE SELECTION OF TRAILERS

L . Van Bogaert Transport has been operating for 85 years, primarily as a transporter for the construction industry. However, René Ryckaert is something of an exception within the company, given that he is usually seen driving a curtain-side trailer, the kind that is normally used for more traditional distribution purposes.

STARTING FROM ZERO

“At first I was a bit taken aback by the fact that I had to reset my score to zero for the DAF Driver Training provided by the Transport Academy. Efficient driving has always been a passion of mine and I wasn’t too happy about having to give up all the points I had worked so hard to earn,” says René when he looks back on the training. However, this gave him the opportunity to learn some new tricks and ultimately he was very satisfied with the reset. “My score is now back up to 96 or 97%, which is pretty good, and this is primarily due to the fact that I now know how to use my truck so that I can drive it as efficiently as possible,” explains René.

WHEN DRIVING EFFIECNTLY BECOMES A SPORT

René Ryckaert says that he sometimes drives his truck less efficiently as a kind of game: “Just to find out how quickly my score can fall and to see how long it takes to win back those percentage points again. That helps to keep me aware of the fact that driving efficiently is something you need to do consistently,” which probably explains why this driver for the company in Hamme is always trying to improve his percentages. “It’s the only way to stay sharp, although I also think it is important to take this kind of training once every two years so that you can continue to learn how to drive efficiently,” concludes René.
